The Lord is Providing, just as He promises

The Lord is absolutely providing! These past few weeks have been tremendously encouraging for our family! God has continued to prove His direction in our lives.

As you probably know already, we are planting a church through Southwinds Church in Calgary. The pastor there, Bo Neal, is hoping to send several families with us as we plant a new church in the Mahogany community. Well, Bo told me this week that there is another church south of Calgary that is very interested in helping us to plant as well. I don't know exactly what that looks like yet, but God has definitely been laying this new church on the hearts of believers both in Calgary and here in the Southeast US.

Just last night, I had the tremendous opportunity to speak to about 200 men at our Association's Quarterly Men's Fellowship. They generously gave us $300 for speaking. But wait...the pastor of the host church, Alvin Burdette, surprised me with taking a love offering from those in attendance for our ministry. Our Director of Missions, David Shirley, asked me to come by the association office in Seneca today to pick something up. The check was the total for the love offering given by the men of Oconee County, and the total was $2,214.14!!! I was in shock. David said all I would say for the next few minutes was "Oh my goodness." I cried half way back to Westminster.

Another example is this gift from Westminster Baptist Church, and their Blue Ridge Sunday School class...

This is an 8x18 Enclosed Trailer that we transport all of our church equipment and summer camp stuff in, as we will be meeting in a community center in Calgary.

As you can see, God is providing in incredible ways! Just this week, I had a gentleman from another church who is battling leukemia drop by with his wife, and they handed me a card with $100 in it. This family didn't know me, but had heard their pastor at Holly Springs Baptist in Long Creek, SC talk about what our family is doing.

I have been incredibly humbled and yet awesomely encouraged by the people God has brought to us as partners in this process. Without help, there is absolutely no way my family could follow this calling God has given us to start a church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

So where are we now? I have been busy continuing to pastor Corinth here in Westminster, as well as speaking in other churches who are considering partnering with us both on Sundays and Wednesdays from time to time. We are still raising our Financial Partnerships, and hope to have that complete sometime in April. As soon as that is complete, we will be moving to Calgary. As it looks right now, we still lack just over $2,000 per month in commitments.

Thank you so much for your prayers for our family...I cannot tell you how grateful we are for them, and how much God is using them!

If you would like to be put on our email list to receive newsletters, which we will begin in just a couple months, please let me know. We would love to keep you up-to-date on what God is doing in and through our ministry. To do so, simply comment to this post or email me at bmyers3883@hotmail.com

Christmas Update

Thank you for your prayers! It has been an exciting month to say the least!
We had an addition to our team on December 3 in the form of an adorable little girl: Lydia Ann. She is the namesake of the "seller of purple cloth" in Acts 16 who was the door through which God reached entire region of people in Europe. Lydia weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz. at birth and was just over 20 inches long. She is doing great, as is Mommy, and Eden and Karis absolutely adore her!

The first 2 Sunday of the month, I had the awesome privilege of speaking in 2 area churches that are considering partnering with us in Calgary: Westminster Baptist here in Westminster and New Hope Baptist in Seneca. Both engagements went great, and God is blessing incredibly through them both! Both teams are sending mission teams this next summer to help us on the ground in Calgary, and both are helping us financially to get there.
I have several more engagements planned in the coming months with churches who are considering partnering with us in one form or another. Please be in prayer for us!
The amount we have to raise to start a church in Calgary has at times seemed overwhelming, but God is confirming His guidance to Calgary daily. Just last week, I had an elderly lady that used to be a neighbor send me a check for $500, and she said that as she was thinking about who to give to, God brought our family to her mind. We are thankful for stories like that which confirm God is in this.
Again, thank you for your prayers! We greatly appreciate them!

Finally, we will be starting a prayer report in January to update our partners on a regular basis. I will post that newsletter to this blog, but if you would rather receive that newsletter by email, please comment or message me and let me know your email address so that I can shoot it straight to your inbox.

Luke 2:15-18
When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the feeding trough. After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

Do come and worship Jesus as the shepherds did...but note that they didn't stop there. Make sure to also go and tell.

"Here I am. Send me." We are following God's call to Calgary, Alberta, CANADA!

Thanks for visiting everyone! We are excited about some things God is doing in our life right now, and we will be back to using this page to keep you up-to-date on some of that.

We have been privileged to lead Corinth Baptist Church in Westminster for the past 4 years! God has done many awesome things in our time there. We have sent mission teams to Tennessee, India, Atlanta, and Calgary, Alberta. We have seen a lot of growth in the people at Corinth, and have grown to deeply love our brothers and sisters in Christ there!

During our time there, God began to give us a greater heart to reach the nations. In our partnership with Calgary, Alberta, we have supported Southwinds Church and Pastor Bo Neal by sending teams there each summer. Over the course of the past 6 months or so, God began to help us see that He is doing more than just leading us to SEND, but to GO. When I (Brett) shared with Pastor Bo at Southwinds in Calgary that we felt God was leading us there to plant, he shared that the leadership of a new community called Mahogany had recently contacted him about starting (planting) a church in their community center (currently being built) when it opens in the Fall of 2014. Mahogany will consist of 30,000-40,000 people. As is the case throughout Calgary, about 97% of the people do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. The leadership had been praying through that decision and praying that God would send them a person to plant and pastor that new church. The time they were praying that was the very same timeframe that God was solidifying that call on our lives.

Over the past 2-3 months, God has continued to confirm that call on our lives in incredible ways. This is a huge step for our family. Please be in prayer for our family, for our current church as they send us out to plant and also look for their next pastor, for Southwinds Church as they seek God in how to come alongside us, and for people in the community of Mahogany to whom we are called.

We will be missionaries through the North American Mission Board as church planters in Calgary. Please pray for us over the next several months as we will have to raise most of our financial support from people who want to partner with us in this new ministry. If you would like to partner with us in this exciting new ministry, please contact me and I would be happy to share more information with you about what God is doing through our lives and how you can partner with us.

As promised, here are a few pics of the snow and ice storm. It looks like the temps should get up to the high 40's tomorrow, so we might finally be able to see our driveway again. If you haven't done so already, read our last post for an update.

Yes, that's wood trim we're burning...times were tough...

The Seminary campus...absolutely beautiful!!!

Just one of the local roads. Ahhh...4 wheel drive

On the way to buy a generator...we ran out of trim...

Ice Storm '09

After spending one night in front of the fire, running out of firewood, driving to Nashville to buy a generator that was too small, buying a bigger generator, selling the small generator, and burning some wood trim and random 2x4's, we're still hanging in there. Actually, God blessed us tremendously last night and restored our power through the endless work of all the power crews. As you've probably heard, there are still countless families in Louisville and all of Kentucky that still do not have power. Continue to pray for them as it appears we may have another storm coming Monday and Tuesday. Despite all the hassle, this week was an awesome blessing. Kristin and I have been so busy lately that it was very refreshing to have a break from travel and school to simply hang out with each other. It's the closest to camping I can get Kristin, so secretly I enjoyed it. She was perplexed and a little agravated when we arrived home to restored power only for me to be disappointed...I'd spent $643 on a 5000 watt generator the night before...I REALLY wanted to play with my new toy. Nevertheless, we're very thankful that God's blessed us with power, as so many still do not have it and will probably not have power for several weeks.

We've been visiting a new church in town that we've fallen in love with. Our desire has been to find a church a little closer to Kristin's school so that we can bring any students that express interest in going to church with us, as this has previously not been an option because our churches have been over an hour away. We'll update soon as God continues to lead us.

We're also getting ready to send out resumes and begin the search for a position post-graduation. While I've always felt that God was leading me to pastor, He has grown that desire in both of us even more so during the last several months. We're so excited to discover where He's leading us. Continue to pray for us in that matter.

Eden Noel Myers is continuing to grow, as is Mommy. Hopefully, we'll be having 3D ultrasounds soon and will post them for everyone to gloat over. Kristin is doing great, with very little sickness. Continue to pray for Eden and that God will prepare her parents to be the biblical parents we should be. And feel free to reply with some parenting tips...as we surely need them!!!

We'll post some pictures from Ice Storm '09 over the next couple days, so be sure to check back soon. And please continue to pray for our fellow Kentuckians during this recovery and for the safety of all the crews working to restore power.
